Finding a Perfect Location for Senior Portraits
As a portrait photographer, I am often asked to recommend great places in Macomb County to take high school senior portraits. The potential list is quite long, but I thought I would share my favorites.
Nature
If you are looking for a natural setting for your pictures, these are my top two choices:
- Stony Creek Metropark – This 4,400-acre Metropark was developed around the 500-acre Stony Creek Lake. There are trails, wooded areas, waterfront settings and much more at this location.
- Wolcott Mill Metropark – This park is located east of Romeo Plank, near 29 Mile Road. It is a beautiful rural setting on about 2,600 acres. The Historic Center Grist Mill and trails are excellent locations. The Farm Center is another choice. Finally, check out the equestrian trails and you just might have a beautiful horse as your backdrop.
Smaller Civic Parks
These two smaller locations are very popular spots for senior pictures in Macomb County:
- Shelby Township Heritage Gardens – This park is located in south of 24 Mile and east of Van Dyke. The gardens area can be rented out for special events. The park features a 2.5 acre spring-fed lake.
- Blossom Heath Park and Pier / Wahby Park– Located in St. Clair Shores, east of Jefferson, between 9 Mile and 10 Mile, this park features fountains, ponds, and gazebo and more. A separate park is also located behind the Blossom Heath Hall. Wahby Park along Jefferson is the most accessible.
If you are looking for a downtown setting, the Village of Romeo is my top choice. Located near Van Dyke and 32 Mile, this historic downtown has so many great backdrops to choose from. Downtown Richmond, Utica, and Mt. Clemens are other good choices for urban lifestyle senior portraits.
